GIS Expert

SCHEDULE

This role is an independent contractor consultancy based on a monthly hourly cap, typically between the hours of 8am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Usually up to 40 hours/week (min of 10 hours/week availability) with 30 minutes – 1 hour lunch break (unpaid) depending on the overall hourly cap, unless other arrangements have been agreed to by the employer and the employee.

WPD is focused on solar PV development, wind energy project development, BESS hybrid project development, design, site analysis & land acquisition, permitting, financing and power marketing in the US.

ABILITES

Excellent GIS skills, ideally with experience in mapping wind and solar projects.
Excellent attention to detail, great organizational skills, and a sense of personal responsibility for the quality of your work.
Analytical mindset with the ability to communicate key findings effectively to the team.

Capable of driving your own assigned tasks forward with minimal supervision, given proper instructions.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as planning ordinances, environmental documents, various information in regard to distances and restrictions of development areas.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to understand and follow customary instructions in order to perform the essential functions of the position in a satisfactory manner.
Ability to research the web and appropriate sources for respective constraints in the areas assigned to plan renewable energy projects
Ability to solve complex problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee will need to be comfortable working with a computer for extended periods.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

Prepare a variety of maps and provide data for layouts to support renewable energy project development (mainly PV and wind energy).
Identify suitable areas for development via desktop studies based on defined parameters.
Present the findings to the team and explain reasoning .
Support team with any mapping related tasks as they might occur during the course of development.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency in ESRI’s suite of GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro and 3D Analyst, MS Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint .
Efficient execution of routine mapping tasks.
5+ years of professional experience in GIS mapping required, with prior renewable energy project development work experience preferred
Team player attitude, willing to work flexible hours as needed
Thrives in a fast moving environment
Good people skills – a polite and professional demeanor when working with other companies, as well as consumers and coworkers
High School Grad / GED
Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience
Valid driving license (NON CDL)
Must be able to pass drug/alcohol screening.

EQUIPMENT, MACHINES, TOOLS USED

ESRI’s suite of GIS software, Microsoft Office applications, (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and operation of office equipment (computers, tablets, cell phone, copier, etc.)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties can be performed in a climate-controlled office environment in one of the company’s offices or remote. Optionally, employee may be invited to engage in travel by car to site, and in worksite visit(s) or vendor meetings.
