The wpd Group develops and operates onshore wind farms and solar farms. With its 4,300 employees, the company is engaged in 33 countries worldwide. Since late 2016, the company has also operated in the US market. wpd is focused on solar PV development, wind energy project development, BESS hybrid project development, design, site analysis & land acquisition, permitting, financing and power marketing in the US.
wpd’s mission in the US is to further expand as a lean, effective, high-quality developer of wind, solar and BESS hybrid projects. This is to be achieved as a nimble team able to flex across all aspects of cutting-edge highly profitable projects.
The team shall be mainly comprised of rather generalists, who are well-versed on the business with a 360° understanding of successful projects and not a group of compartmentalized specialists.

ABILITES:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, permitting rules, technical and environmental reports, etc.
  • Ability to draft status reports, development schedules and internal and stakeholder-oriented correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions to perform the essential functions of the position in a satisfactory manner.
  • Ability to identify problems and issues that arise involving several variables in non-standardized and fast-paced situations and suggest possible solutions.
  • Ability to identify problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations
  • Ability to assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis and then help draw up solutions
  • Initial project management skills and first-hand knowledge of the relevant project management tools
  • knowledge and understanding of permitting requirements of wind, solar and hybrid storage projects
  • Understanding of some – required aspects for a successful project development including understanding good siting, great interconnection options, comprehensive resource assessment and power marketing knowledge.
  • Business acumen and ability to understand financial and wider business implications of project actions
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to communicate key findings effectively to the leadership team, board members and investors
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and grow knowledge and skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee will need to be comfortable working with a computer for extended periods. This position also requires extensive travel as required by the progress of developments.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

  • Analyse the overall project situation and phase and based on that develop a project schedule.
  • Add to project success by periodically following up the various stakeholders and service providers.
  • Track, monitor and report project progress to the superiors. Identify deviations. Communicate impact on the project and actively create and suggest solutions to mitigate effects.
  • Identify and liaise with all relevant project stakeholders to maintain relationships that are suitable to further project progress and ensure project success
  • Manage and administer all subcontractors and partner contractors to ensure success
  • Drive and inspire continuous improvement with the aim to lower the cost of energy and hence secure project success as well as increasing potential development and operational margins

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required, master’s degree preferred
  • Initial relevant experience in renewable energy projects development with project planning, execution, and history of improvements is advantageous and preferred
  • Generally familiar with the aspects of a successful renewable energy project
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the technical, commercial, and political aspects driving the renewable industry
  • Strong interpersonal, management, and organizational skills

  • Self-starter with ability to work without intensive supervision

EQUIPMENT, MACHINES, TOOLS USED:

Microsoft Office applications, (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and operation of office equipment (computers, tablets, cell phone, copier, etc.)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Duties can be performed in a climate-controlled office environment. with frequent visits to project sites where there may be exposure to the elements.
